Mangaluru: In an effort to improve the rating in the Swachh Survekshan survey conducted by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban (Mohua), Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has planned various campaign activities.
City Corporation is the best urban number of local bodies in the 3-10 lakh population category of solid waste management (SWM) in Swachh Survekhsan 2018-19.
However, it experienced a setback because the tragedy of the 2019 waste shear which damaged 27 houses and farm fields in Pachanady.
In 2020-21, City Corporation bagged the ninth place in SWM.
At present, City Corporation has faced several challenges, especially when the petition associated with SWM and trash tragedy submitted by the Karnataka state legal service authority is being heard at the High Court.
MCC has prepared a detailed project report (DPR) to clean nearly 10 lats tons of inheritance waste from pachanady, using biomining technology.
The same was approved in last year’s country cabinet, and City Corporation had completed the bidder from Hyderabad to carry out the biomining process.
However, the Ministry of Finance has not cleared the tender.
Likewise, City Corporation has not received the government’s nodding for two DPR for the collection of door-to-door waste and management to be carried out in the city.
MCC officials said that Mohua would consider an evaluation for Swayhh Survekshan 2022 from July 2021.
The physical evaluation survey by the Ministry is expected in the city in March.
Meanwhile, a fundback of citizens and residents’ involvement surveys should begin on February 7.
However, it has not started, and City Corporation has not received any communication in this matter, declaring officials from MCC.
City Corporation has sent an email to the ministry, look for more information about the survey to be carried out, as part of Swachh Survekshan 2022, the official said, added that this survey is expected to begin, officially more.
The Mayor of Premanand Shetty said that City Corporation has sent the necessary communication regarding Swachh Survekshan 2022 to Mohua.
“City Corporation has made preparations to participate in surveys and increase rankings,” he added.
