MCC to illuminate the road for Dasara Mangaloru

Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has decided to illuminate city streets during the Mangaloru Dasara and Navaratri festival.
This festival will be celebrated at Kudrati Sri Gokarnanatha Temple, Mangaladevi Temple and other temples from 7 to 16 October.
For the first time, MCC will sanction funds to illuminate all the main roads in the city.
The resolution in this case was adopted at the MCC Board meeting recently.
The Corporator nominated Radhakrishna moved the proposal, and it was approved by the Board in a round voice.
The Civic body has given 38 lakh sanctions to decorate the streets around the Kudrati Temple and other main streets.
Following similar requests from other corporators, the corporation agreed to sanction funds to decorate the road around the Mangaladevi temple too.
Radhakrishna said the Kudroli Temple Committee usually spent money to decorate the road during the festival.
“Thousands of worshipers from all over India and abroad visit the city to soak in Dasara Festivity Mangaloru.
However, the number of worshipers who came to the festival was drastically reduced last year due to a pandemic.
So the temple is also not in a position to spend large quantities to decorate the road,” he said.
Expressing gratitude to MCC, the President of Kudroli Temple H S Saiiram said the temple would celebrate the Dasara with the slogan ‘Namma Dasara-Namma Surakshe’.
Except for procession, all rituals and cultural events will be held in the temple according to the direction of the head of Patron B Janardhan Poojary.
The guidelines set by the district government and the government will be followed during the celebration, he said.
Before the pandemic, a 6km procession used to start from kudroli and pass Mannagudda, Lady Hill Circle, Lalbagh, PVC circle, Navabharat circle, Hampankatta, Car Street to immerse idols in Temple.
However, because Covid, the procession of idol immersion will be held symbolically in the temple place this year on October 15.
The cultural program will be channeled online and naked on local TV channels, said Treasurer Temple R Padmaraj.
