Gurgaon: MCG has now made it mandatory for all garbage-collection vehicles to install a global positioning system (GPS) device so as to check their movements and working of the sanitation workers in real time.
The civic body has asked all the newly hired sanitation agencies to provide garbage-lifting vehicles fitted with GPS devices.
“We have made it mandatory for all the tractor-trolleys and other garbage-lifting vehicles to install a GPS device so that we can track them.
Their monthly payment will also be made on the basis of the tracking done through GPS.
The proposal has been long pending, but now we have decided to implement this to bring in transparency,” said a senior MCG official privy to the matter.
MCG officials said that the GPS devices will tell the distance covered by these vehicles and help track location to determine the time they took in garbage collection and whether they are actually visiting the spots designated for waste collection.
