Rory McILRoy’s Golfer has supported Naomi Osaka’s decision to rest from tennis after the elimination of the world number three of Japan from the US Open last week, said that it was important that athletes did not let the results define them.
Osaka who cried told reporters that he would take the time from sports after crashing into the third round in Flushing Meadows to Leylah Fernandez who was 19 years old, added that he had struggled with anxiety and depression over the past few years.
Speaking after his last round at the tour championship where he was tied to 14 McILRoy said that he had faced a similar trouble in his own career.
“I talked about this in 2019 about separating who I was as a golfer and who I was as person and tried not to let it define me, and it seemed what Naomi did at that time,” I said the big winner four times.
“How can I play tennis and enjoy it and don’t let the results define who I am …
I think everyone just needs to let him have time to find out.” Osaka has received support from various athletes, including Tennis Greats Billie Jean King and Boris Becker, as well as the former American Sprinter Michael Johnson, with many who praised him because he oversees a mental discussion.
MciLroy added: “He looks like a very smart girl, and hopefully he will be able to do it and come back and start enjoying the game like when he takes the racket when he is still small.”
