Medicines, alcohol causes one suicide every hour by 2020

Bengaluru: The death by suicide associated with drug abuse and alcoholism continues to increase by 2020 see more than 9,000 cases such as at least one hour level.
Only two countries, Maharashtra and Karnataka, accounted for more than 43% of cases.

Of the 9,169 deaths, 3,956 came from Maharashtra and Karnataka.
Data analysis from previous years showed that Maharashtra had topping tables since at least 2015, cases in Karnataka have grown and brought the country to second place since 2018.
It was in third place in 2015 and 2020, almost 40,000 deaths by suicide had been Associated with drugs and alcohol.
In addition to Maharashtra and Karnataka, three other states – Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala – also reported a high percentage in these years.
In 2020, these countries together contributed 7,356 (more than 80%) of the total death.
There has been a consistent increase in these cases in the last five years with 2015 only reported 3,670 cases.
This is not just a total number of cases like that, but suicide like the percentage of the total suicide has also risen.
In 2015, these cases only contributed 2.7% of the total suicide.

Annual increase in Maharashtra has been in the range of 7% and 29%, while between 30% and 300% (2015 to 2018) in Karnataka.
