New Delhi: The Minister of Sports Anurag Thakur on Monday led the first review meeting after taking over his service when he took Indian preparation for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
The high-level committee meeting was also attended by his representative Nisith Pramanik and officials of the Ministry of Sport, Indian Sports Authority (SAI) and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
Meanwhile was the seventh committee meeting, it was the first for Thakur and Pramanik after taking over the sports ministry last week.
Thakur took over as Minister of Sports from Kiren Rijiju last week after the cabinet of reshuffle by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Pramanik is 35 years old, the first parliamentary member of Bengal, was appointed as Minister of State for the business of youth and sports under Thakur, who was the minister of cabinet.
During the meeting chaired by Thakur, various problems, including the provision of world-class training facilities for Olympic bonded athletes was discussed.
“It was a meeting of normal high-level committees that had lasted a long time.
In this meeting, we took the preparation of Indian athletes for the Olympics, to see if everything was on track or whatever was delayed to be handled,” the official source told PTI.
In addition, Thakur also discussed the officers of the progress of the # Cheer4India campaign and preparation for the interaction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the Olympic bonded athletes on Tuesday.
Modi will interact with the athletes virtually in their efforts to motivate them ahead of the Tokyo Olympics opened on July 23.
The interaction will be telessast directly in Doordarshan and on various government social media platforms.
More than 120 Indian athletes will participate in the Tokyo Olympics in the midst of a strict health safety protocol because of Covid-19 pandemic.
The game will be held without viewers from July 23 to August 8.
