MySuru: The remnants of megalithic sites with ‘Hasubande Samadi’ and five Veeragallu (Hero-Stones) owned by the 9th century and 11th century or 12th Hoysala were found in Huchchagani Village in Nanjiud Taluk.
Kuvempunagar First Class Government of the Department of SG Department of SG Ramadasa Reddy, along with research students of BS Charan Kumar and NSS NL students Puneet Kumar found megalithic sites and veeragallu in the village that came under the Hullahalli River.
This site is about 30 km from MySuru, he stated on Wednesday.
The big prehistoric stone tomb was found in banana plantations owned by one Basappa in the village.
Reddy and the team have found pieces of pots, small red iron ore, and other prehistoric ingredients on the location.
Reddy believes that the place has been used as a shop for grain.
The team has also found five VeeraGallu at the location of the Adhishakti Mahadevamma temple which was in the recent controversy because the district administration had taken drives demolition.
The temple was believed to be built by Cholas.Reddy said the idol at Adhishakti Mahadevamma Temple and the adjacent Bairaveshwara temple made of iron and included in the Chola period.
Cholas ruled the area between the 11th and 12th centuries in accordance with the epigrafia carnatica.
“While four Veeragallu Mastigallu was found in a temple place, one Veeragallu was found on the banana plantation.
Veera Mastigallu is around 6.5 feet as high as 3.4 feet and 7 inches thick.
The stone has carved soldiers holding swords, Mahasati, Devakya and Sri Krishna , “he said the megalithic site and veeragallu must be protected by the department concerned, he said.
