Shillong: The chairman of the newly appointed Meghalaya High Court, Justice Sanjib Banerjee, on Friday a lot on “VIP culture” that is common in the country, which he said opposed the interest of the masses.
Speaking on a function on international human rights day at the State Convention Center, Justice Banerjee observed that “VIP culture separates those in power from ordinary people, in the case of the way they behave and the level of privileges they enjoy”.
“It was in vain to destroy the mass structure just to feed the VIP culture of the uber cast from authority.
While India offers many modern facilities, hunger, poverty, lack of shelter and health care has not been adequately handled,” he said.
Judge Banerjee emphasized the need to protect diversity in Indian homogeneous identity.
Regarding the caste system and female oppression which is a reality today, he said, “This is a post-colonial feudal cultural heritage that we cannot be proud of.”
