Chennai: The founder of the Ramadoss PMK on Thursday urged the state government to remain vigilant about the plan of the Karnataka Mekedatu Dam and a committee led by an exclusive water resource expert to deal with this problem with Cauvery’s technical cells working on Cauvery’s disputes.
In a statement, PMK leader condemned the Chairperson of the Karnataka Minister Basavaraj Bommai to support the Mekedatu Dam project.
“A newly sworn in the main minister is involved in destructive activities, instead of trying to strengthen relations with Tamil Nadu,” Ramadoss said, trying to remind how the main ministers of the Ridarian State were determined to build a dam and be ready to do it anything to virtue.
The dam was originally designed to accommodate 67.14TMCFT water and is estimated to cost Rs 5,912 Crore.
Then, estimates jumped Rs 9,000 Crore to save 70TMCT.
The storage capacity is higher than the Krishnarajasagar dam throughout Cauvery and will take the combined storage capacity of all dams throughout Cauvery in Karnataka to 225TMCT.
“Tamil Nadu will not get a drop of water from Karnataka,” said PMK leader.
Efforts to prevent water from opposing agreements included by Madras and Mysore countries in 1892.
Both the Supreme Court and the Government will give approval to the project.
“Aware of its development, the Government of Karnataka has developed a new strategy and maintains that the dam is not for irrigation but for drinking water supply to Bengaluru.
The state will ask permission only in this head,” Ramadoss said.
While the Supreme Court modified the court order and provided 4.75TMCT for Bengaluru, it could not be justified to build a 70TMC capacity dam for it, the PMK leader said.
He urged the Tamil Nadu government to appoint a secretary to pay special attention to water resources since the separate ministry has been formed by the DMK regime.
At present, the PWD secretary also takes care of water resources.
