Mekedatu project: BSY action plan order

Bengaluru: Head of the Karnataka Minister B Yediyurappa has directed officials to prepare an action plan for the earliest Mekedupatu project, which is important for the Minister of State, House, Law and Parliament Bumavaraj Bommai said here on Wednesday.
This weekend Yediyurappa will hold a meeting with legal experts and technical experts about preparing the project action plan, Bommai told reporters.
“There are only other applications delayed in the Supreme Court in connection with the Mekedatu scheme.

Stressing that this project is important for the state, Bommai said it would play a key role in managing Cauvery in the future.
This will be a parallel dam to supply water during the water crisis.
The Mekedatu project has become a bone of a fight between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, which often marks the problem of sharing Cauvery water every time there is a lack of rainfall in the catchment area, which originates from Kodagu Regency in Karnataka and the Tamil Nadu course.
Recently, Yediyurappa wrote to Tamil Mitra Nadu M Stalin, urged him not to oppose the project because it would benefit the two countries.
Mekedatu in response, Stalin asked Yediyurappa not to pursue the Mekedatu project, saying that it would “confiscate and divert” the flow of water that was uncontrolled because Tamil Nadu from Sub-Basin Kabini, the catchment area under the Krishnaragasagar Dam, and also from SimSha, Arkavathy and suvarnavathi sub-basins, in addition to other small flows.
For questions when the monsoon session of the legislature of Karnataka will be held, Bommai said it has not been decided, but he will discuss it with Yediyurappa.
