Mysuru: The implementation of the Mekedatu Dam project can help spur economic activities in the region, according to Congress MLA R Narendra, who represents Hanur in the Chamarajanagar district.
MLA said the project was important for the development of its electoral district because it would cut down the distance between the resignation district of Chamarajanagar and Bengaluru about 60 kilometers.
“At present, to reach Bengaluru, we use Gollegal, Malavalli Road.
However, once the bridge was built across the Cauvery River on the Mekedatu project site, the distance between Hanur and Bengaluru will drop around 60 kilometers.
We can reach Kanakapura City and, Bengaluru easily , “he said.” Together with the bridge, there is a need to build a road along the stretch of 3 km in the forest as well.
If the two works are complete, it will help Chamarajanagar Regency, “he said.
If the new road is built, it will help worshipers who visit hill stations and temples such as MM Hill of Chamarajanagar District, he added.
Adding Narendra, this road proposal was first debated by his father, G Raju Gowda in 1978.
Raju Gowda, a former Minister also appealed to CM HD Deve Gowda for the same thing in 1994.
“When Deve Gowda was ready, the DPR was ready.
For political reasons, the project proposal did not see the light of the day.
Now I pursue this project with the MP Bengaluru Rural DK Suresh, “he said.
Narendra observed that this project was beneficial for all stakeholders including Tamil Nadu.
“66 TMC Air will be available after this project is complete.
This will help to resolve the water and electricity crisis including regular water supply to Bengaluru City,” he said.
