Mekedatu Row: K’Taka will get justice, said Union Min

Bengaluru: Minister of Water Resources Union Gajendra Shekhawat on Tuesday said the center would make justice for Karnataka in irrigation projects, including controversial Mekedatu.
After the meeting with CM BS Yediyurappa and his colleagues here to review the progress of Jeevan’s mission Jeevan who seek to provide pipe water supply to all households, Shekhawat said he would soon hold a meeting in Delhi to discuss issues related to Irigaka projects.
“After studying the problem, the center will make the appropriate decision and make justice for Karnataka,” he said.
His guarantee has significance when it comes a day after Tamil Nadu issues a resolution that opposes the application of the Mekedatu project, which has been planned to address Bengaluru’s drinking water needs and ensure effective water management for years.
We asked the center to clean the Kalasa-Banduri Project: CMBOUT Government Resolution Tamil Nadu, Shekhawat said: “Let them (TN) make a decision.
The center will carry out his job according to the law.
We will receive a call on the Mekedatu project after hearing from the two countries.
And the Court Agung must give an assessment.
“Yediyurappa said the United Minister assured Karnataka that delaying permission for state irrigation projects would soon come.
“We urge the minister to publish the final verdict of the Krishna River Water Court in Gazette and give permission for the Kalasa-banduri project.
The minister responded to our request positively,” said the ministerial head.
“I don’t want to discuss Tamil Nadu or other countries (about water sharing disputes).
We have the right (to plan the project) and we will start doing it,” said Yediyurappa with reference to Tamil Nadu’s objection to the Mekedatu project.
Yediyurappa said 25 Tap Lakh connections will be provided this year under the Jal Jeevan mission.
“The recent fourfold increase in middle grants will help the state reach the target on time,” he added.
Shekhawat said Karnataka’s performance in Jeevan’s implementation was praised.
