New Delhi: A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly demanding Rs 50,000 at the point of weapons from a shopkeeper here, police said Thursday.
Capil defendant, a resident of Kirari, Suleman Nagar, had previously been involved in five criminal cases, they said.
He is currently coming out with a guarantee, they add.
On Tuesday, Kapil, along with his colleagues, went to the complainant, Manish in the Nangloi Delhi Barat area and asked Rs 50,000 at the point of weapons.
When Manish called the police to report the crime, the two men fled, the deputy commissioner of the Police (outside) Parvinder Singh said.
Manish, a resident of Bahadurgarh in Haryana, runs a silver shop at Punjabi Basti, Nangloi.
The previous store is owned by one Jaiver Godhara, which is related to the capil, police said.
Kapil is used to visit his shop and develop a friendship relationship with him, said DCP.
Previously, Kapil had asked for some money to care for his son and Manish lent him 1,700 rs.
He then asked for more money and complainants to give him Rs 500.
About three days ago, Kapil asked him to set Rs 45,000, the officer said.
The police have arrested the capil and recovered a gun made by the country’s ownership.
Further investigations are underway and efforts are being carried out to track their colleagues, who have escaped, DCP said.
