New Delhi: In front of independence day, the police have arrested a 27-year-old man from the area Kalan Jaffarpur West Delhi and restored 20 illegal firearms from him, police said on Saturday.
To avoid the police, Mufeed, Mathura district residents in Uttar Pradesh were used to supply illegal firearms in Delhi and NCR, disguised themselves as balloon sellers, they said.
The police got a tip-off that a man with a sophisticated gun will come to Delhi on Friday to supply firearms and can be trapped near the Ghummanhera Mod here, said a senior police officer.
A man carrying a bag on his back and holding a few balloons in his hand was seen near the place.
At first, he seemed to be a normal balloon seller, the officer said.
When the police asked him to give up to look for, the man began to run.
He let go of the balloon and pull out a gun from the bag and release it in the police, police said.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Santosh Kumar Meena said the man was defeated and at the time of checking his bag, 19 new pistols were restored along with nine balloon packages.
During the interrogation, the defendant said he had supplied illegal firearms in Delhi / NCR from Burhanpur in MP.
He has disguised as a balloon seller and carries a balloon package to avoid the police, said DCP.
Overall 20 sophisticated 20 illegal pistols, four daily rounds and nine balloon packages were recovered from ownership, added the police.
