MADURAI: A 60-year-old man died while eight others, including six women, suffered injuries in an explosion in the illegal cracker manufacturing unit in Thayilpatti in the Virudhunagar district on Friday.
The explosion occurred at around 9:50 a.m.
on Friday at the work spilled at M Balamurugan’s house, which was one of the injured.
The deceased has been identified as C Shanmugaraj.
Shanmugaraj died while undergoing treatment at the Sivakasi Government Hospital (GH).
S Selvamary suffered 60% of burns while S Muthu Muneeswari suffered 50% of burns.
Others – Balamurugan, M Muthuselvi, M Suganthi, M Seethalakshmi and M Muthuraj – suffer 40% burns.
Everything rushes to Sivakasi GH.
R Selvi, who suffered minor injuries, was treated at the Thayilpatti Primary Health Center.
The explosion occurred because of friction when Shanmugaraj mixed chemicals, according to the police.
Shanmugaraj, Balamurugan and the others who are injured have produced crackers illegally in work.
Based on the complaint submitted by the administrative official of Thayilpatti Village, the Vembakottai police registered the case.
The police started the inspection to check if there was an illegal cracker unit in the area.
Virudhunagar District collector J Meghanatha Reddy recently formed a special team to carry out routine inspections to curb illegal crackers in homes.
