Cuddalore: Coouddalore Mahila Court on Friday dropped a 25-year-old man to undergo 10 years in prison for leaving his girlfriend after companioning him and forced him to cancel the fetus.
Judge session (Mahila Court) S Balakrishnan imposed a fine of RS 55,000 to him with direction to pay compensation of Rs 30,000 to the victims.
The judge also punished his parents to undergo two years in prison on charges of attacking his girlfriend.
He directed his parents to pay a fine of Rs 2,000 each.
Special Public Prosecutor K Selvapriya said a Prabhu from a village near Vridhachalam in the district and a 24-year-old woman from the same area was in a relationship for a long time, and the woman was pregnant.
Selvapriya said Prabhu forced the woman to cancel the fetus when he urged him to marry him.
He said he was unemployed and both would not be in a position to raise the baby.
He promised to marry her as soon as he got a decent job.
Immediately he got a government job and posted as a night guard in the district court complex.
Women and family members visited Prabhu and his parents K Anbalagan, 57 and Rajeswari, 48 on June 19, 2017, and asked him to marry him.
But Prabhu refused to marry her and her and her parents attacked her and harassed it verbally.
Humed by poor treatment, the woman tried to commit suicide by consuming poisonous seeds.
His parents and relatives claimed to be to the Vridhachalam Government General Hospital and save him.

He asked him not to file a complaint of the police and promised to marry him after he recovered.
His woman and relatives returned to visit Prabhu’s house on November 10, 2017 to discuss the proposed marriage.
