New Delhi: A man was arrested near Kashmere Gate ISBT on Friday with leopard claws, teeth and other body parts by Delhi Forest and Wildlife Department in operations along with Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB).
A forest official said the man was approached by the first individual bait, who met him with the pretext of buying goods, before the team was sent to arrest him.
An official said the defendant did not recur; However, investigations are underway to determine whether other individuals are involved.
Aditya Madanpotra, Deputy Forest Conservator (center), input words are accepted, and based on intelligence, traps are established to call the male near the Kashmere gate terminal.
“Our team approached him with the pretext of buying things and then tried to catch him in action.
He tried to escape, but was arrested by the WCCB team and forest,” said Madanpotra.
The man revealed that he did not kill the animal, but allegedly taking him from the dead leopard in Shimla, he added.
“Prima Facie, it seems that he hasn’t done this in the past, but he knows these parts have many values in the international black market.
He might have sold a few because he has them for more than two years now,” added Madanpotra.
While smuggling and trade in animal wildlife is not common in Delhi, the capital is often used as a smuggling corridor to send goods to other parts of the country and abroad.
The official said that the man had been ordered under the relevant section of the Protection Law of Margasatwa, 1972.
