Coimbatore: A young man, who was under the influence of alcohol, was abolished when he stepped into the Noyyal River on Thursday night.
The body was taken from the river on Friday morning.
The deceased has been identified as G Vallarasu, 23, from the VellaLore housing unit.
The police said Vallarasu was involved in collecting gold dust particles from sand.
He stepped into the river to collect sand and was swept away.
Police said Vallarasu and his friend P Sekar, 23, wall painters, consumption of liquor on Thursday night.
Then, they traveled by motorbike to the house.
Vallarasu riding a motorcycle while Sekar drove a pillion.
When they traveled at the Vellalore Bridge – Nanjundapuram Road Ground Bridge, Vallarasu stopped a motorcycle around 10pm and told Sekar that there were many gold dust on the river sand.
So, he will collect sand to get gold particles.
However, Sekar advised him not to enter the river.
Vallarasu entered the water and was unable to withstand water.
He was swept away in the water.
Sekar rushed to the nearest area and asked for help from residents who rushed to the place.
Detain, fire service personnel and rescue reaches the place.
They launched a search for him.
They can’t track it because it’s dark.
Around 6 am on Friday, firefighters found Vallarasu’s body.
It was trapped in thorny bushes.
It was taken from water and sent to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for postmortem.
Podanur police registered a case.
Further investigation is taking place.
