Mental Health: Young people show their way

Bengaluru: Lakshit Shakuntala Kankariya, 17, has built a social media platform and a podcast series that addresses mental health problems among other problems that disturb young people.
He said the purpose of the podcast, which he started a year ago, was to help people break stigma around mental health problems.
“The conversation around mental health is still not enough.
We can use social media to increase awareness and break taboo,” he said.
People reached him on Instagram (@xyshitkariya) with their problems and he connects them with mental health experts or sharing ways to deal with it.
He has 12.5k followers.
Lakshit is part of a growing young tribe and children who are now seeking timely support.
Instead of cutting their trauma, young people believe in expressing their problems and seeking guidance, 12th grade students at Christ College said.
“Young children share their stories about social media platforms, who have helped normalize and inspire others to talk about their trauma without shame,” he added.
According to him, there are changes in the mindset of parents.
“My parents have supported those who have helped me express themselves without obstacles,” said Resident Chamarajpet.
Afsheen J, a 10th grade student, said: “My parents used to say I had no reason to be anxious.
But now they have understood that mental health is the same as physical health, and needs to be taken seriously,” he said, adding that creating memes And jokes around this problem will help alleviate the surrounding conversation.
Dhatri, a degree student, said change has been possible for them because of exposure and consciousness through popular series and social media platforms.
Parents also educate themselves.
Karthika Prakash, a housewife, said her 18-year-old daughter had helped her understand the difference between clinical sadness and depression.
