MADRID: Sergio Ramos broke down into tears, declaring departing Real Madrid was among the toughest moments of his own life because he bid farewell on Thursday after 16 years in the club.
The defender played with 671 matches for Real Madrid and will probably be remembered among the club’s finest ever players, having won five La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues.
The 35-year-old, that fought for fitness and form last year, was not able to agree that an extension to his contract and is now a free agent on July 1.
Ramos and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez delivered brief speeches at a demonstration room in the club’s training ground, using Ramos’ living in the crowd.

Perez stated that it was”not a simple afternoon”, recalling the way he signed Ramos, aged 19, from Sevilla for 27 million euros in 2005.
