“Women cannot be punished for raising sounds against sexual harassment under the pretext of complaints of defamation.” After the #Metoo movement in 2018, Ramani made allegations of sexual abuse against Akbar.
Based on this, he submitted a defamation case against him and resigned as a United minister.
The trial began in 2019 and lasted for almost two years.
In 2017, Ramani wrote an article for Vogue where he described his trials to be sexually harassed by former bosses during his work interview for publication.
One year later, he revealed that the person who was mentioned as a loose in the article Akbar.
Akbar told the court that the allegations of Ramani were fictitious and cost his reputation of Stellar.
Ramani, on the other hand, opposes these claims, asking for the truth as his defense and said that he made accusations in good faith, public interest, and for public goodness.
Judgment in this case is important because it sets a precedent for similar cases that arise from the #Metoo movement that changes the discourse.
