Chennai: Passengers walk to the metro station to take the train may soon be able to use smart cards to park their vehicles, shopping, and, maybe in the future, even tapping it to travel with MTC buses as Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) tend to launch National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) in February.
Officials said the card reader installation had begun at the metro station and the experiment will be done soon.
“We need about two weeks to install the reader and conduct trials,” said a CMRL official, added: “NCMC will be an open loop card compared to the closed smartcard loop we have now,” officially added.
NCMC, which was paid by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and was launched in 2019, allowing unlimited travel with Metro Rail, MTC and other transportation systems in addition to retail shopping and banking and banking transactions.
Officials say the Rubay Debit Card that matches NCMC will work similar to existing SmartCard Metro Rail Contactless.
Even so, unlike smart cards, which can only be used for Metro rides and for parking vehicles at the station, NCMC can also be used in other transport modes such as MTC and suburban trains when the transit system launches service.
These cards can also be used at metro rail facilities in other cities in this country.
Already Metro Rail in Bengaluru and Delhi is ready to launch facilities.
Another difference between the existing Metro Rail SmartCards and NCMC is that the number of tickets is stored in the former in prepaid format and deducted at the gate when using the latter will involve bank transactions.
This will be a transaction between the card issuing bank and the banking bank that will partner with CMRL to activate the collection of tariffs.
“NCMC and QR-Code tickets will be given priority over existing smartcards and tokens.
We also work to launch account-based tickets where passengers can use their credit or debit card directly to knock the AFC gate and walk in,” said an official railroad metro.
Commenting on Development, Sivasubramaniam Jayaraman, System Manager-Transportation, Transportation and Development Policy Institute (ITDP-India) said, “NCMC is a value-value card that works even when offline.
NCMC needs to be seen as the city center.
The card that will allow the option to tap and Go for commuters traveling in Metro, Bus and other modes.
NCMC will set a new direction for custom payments that can be used throughout Mr.
