Metro contractors were arrested because GST Evasion was fired in 2016

Nagpur: Mahametro Contractor, who was arrested for GST embezzlement of RS 9 Crore, was reportedly fired by agency in 2016 for “unsatisfactory work performance”.
The contractor was arrested in the crackdown on taxation and fraudsters by tax service and service tax officers (CGST), Navi Mumbai Commissioner.

The company has taken a contract from Mahametro for the construction of a train depot in Nagpur.
“The contractor did not pay the GST RS 8.05 Crore to the authorities, which was collected three years ago in 2018.
In addition, taxpayers also utilized input tax credits that did not meet the requirements (ITC) R 95 lakh,” stated.
The perpetrators were arrested three days ago under Section 69 of the CGST law and produced before the court judge in Vashi on Friday.
The court has sent charges to last 14 days.
Regardless of payment of taxes, interest and penalties, this violation attracted a prison term for up to five years.
Mahametro officials told TII that the contractor had been expelled from his services for several months of his appointment.
“We are not satisfied with the quality of work.
We will follow the direction of CGST if there are actions that must be taken from our side,” he added.
According to the release, the CGST department uses a data analysis tool to identify tax avoiders.
“By using this, the Mumbai Zone CGST officer has ordered more than 625 cases of tax evasion, tax avoidance detected by Rs 5500 Crore, recovered Rs 630 Crore and arrested 47 people, in the past five months,” he added.
