The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday directed PWD to open the canal for the next 137 days from August 1 to December 15.
“Based on the demand for farmers, the state government instructs PWD officials to open the eastern and western canal windows for 137.
Days,” Secretary of the Head of the Ministry of Public Works stated in a statement.
The official said the water would be released from the Stanley reservoir in three stages on request.
Nearly 45, 000 hectares of land – 16, 443 hectares in Salem District, 11, 327 hectares in the district of Namakkal and 17, 230 hectares in the Erode district – will benefit.
