Mexico City – Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Monday that he thought US President Joe Biden had to make a decision about the embargo against Cuba in the midst of the largest riots in the Caribbean countries.
Lopez Obrador said it was not enough for the country to elect the embargo through the UN General Assembly, but it was time to make a real decision about it, given that “almost all countries in the world” opposed it.
“It cannot be imagined that at the moment they want to punish independent countries with blockades,” said Lopez Obrador.
“I think President Biden must make a decision about it.
This is a respectful call, from no perspective of disturbance, but we must separate the politics of humanity.” Cuban families must also face fewer restrictions at receiving the delivery of money from those who live in the United States or other countries, added Lopez Obrador.
“How can it be blocked if it’s not government money?” Said Obrador Lopez.
Remittances to Cuba are believed to be around $ 2 billion to $ 3 billion per year, representing the third largest dollar after the service and tourism industry.
Transfers have been slowed by the policies brought under former US President Donald Trump who led Western Union to close Cuban operations.
The Cuban government has blamed protests at what he refers to our “counter-revolutionary” which exploits economic difficulties caused by the US embargo that is decades.
Lopez Obrador said the US embargo was the cause of protests, which erupted in the midst of the Cuban’s worst economic crisis since the fall of the former Ally Soviet Union in the 1990s.
Mexico will send food and medical supplies, including syringes, oxygen tanks and masks, to Cuba via cargo ships.
