Mexico City: Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said Monday that he had Covid-19 for the second time and experienced mild symptoms, because the country hit hard attacked the wave of other infections.
“I tell you that I am infected with Covid-19 and despite light symptoms, I will remain in isolation and will only do office work and communicate virtually until I pass it,” he tweeted.
Lopez Obrador said that the Minister of Home Affairs Adan Augusto Lopez would replace him at the usual morning press conference and other public shows as he recovered.
A few hours earlier the 68-year-old President appeared in front of a journalist without a face mask spoke in a hoarse voice, pushing allegations from the critics of irresponsible behavior.
He said he planned to be tested for Covid-19 but believed he had flu.
Lopez Obrador overcame Covid-19’s first battle at the beginning of 2021.
He had received the AstraZeneca vaccine including a booster on December 7, Mexico was in the grasp from the new wave of Coronavirus infection after a very infectious emergence of omicron variants and year-end family meetings.
On Friday, the official death toll of Covid-19 Mexico the highest fifth in the world exceeded 300,000, although everyday death remained much lower than the previous wave.
129 million countries have reported a total of more than 4.1 million cases of confirmed Coronavirus.
The real number is believed to be much higher because of the low level of testing.
One of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, Mexico has opened the border during a pandemic and does not require a test or trajectory of vaccination from travelers who arrive.
