Mexico: The Mexican government sued US manufacturers and distributors of US weapons on Wednesday in the US Federal Court, arguing that their negligent and illegal commercial practices had released incredible bloodshed in Mexico.
The unusual lawsuit was submitted in the US Federal Court in Boston.
Among those who are required are some of the biggest names in weapons, including Smith & Wesson Brands, Inc.; Barret Firearms Manufacturing, Inc.; Beretta Usa Corp; Colt’s Manufacturing Company, and Glock Inc.
Another defendant is an interstate weapon, wholesale area of Boston who sells weapons from all except one of the manufacturers named to the dealer in the US.
The Mexican government believes that companies know that their practice contributes to weapons trade to Mexico and facilitates it.
Mexico wants compensation for havoc that weapons have done in his country.
The Mexican government “brought this action to end the massive damage caused by the defendants by actively facilitating their weapons trade which violated the law against the drug cartel and other criminals in Mexico,” said the lawsuit.
It noted that most of the weapons were restored in crime scenes in Mexico traded from the US.
Sales of firearms are very limited in Mexico and are controlled by the Department of Defense.
But thousands of weapons are smuggled into Mexico by strong state drug cartels.
In August 2019, a gunman killed 23 people in Walmart, including several Mexican citizens.
At that time, the Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebard said the government would explore its legal choice.
The government said on Wednesday that a recent verdict in the US court contributed to his decision to file a lawsuit.
It quoted a decision in California which allowed a lawsuit against Smith & Wesson to move forward, a lawsuit filed last week against century weapons related to the shooting of 2019 in Gilroy, California, and $ 33 million settlements achieved by several families whose children were killed at Newtown, Connecticut, Mass School Shooting
