Mexico made a serious mistake in an activist death investigation

Mexico City: The Mexican government made a serious mistake in the investigation of Diva Ochoa activist deaths two decades ago and had to continue with an investigation, said the Inter-American Human Court (Iachr) on Wednesday.
Ochoa, who received the threat of death before his body was found with a gunshot wound in October 2001, was a lawyer who defended cases of human rights violations allegedly carried out by civil and military security forces.
The investigation into what was one of the highest profile cases in the country initially pointed to murder but the prosecutor then directed the investigation into the possibility of suicide.
The casing is considered closed.
But the court said in a statement that “truly less” investigations are “violations of obligations to guarantee the right to life”.
Therefore Mexico must continue to investigate and eventually demand those responsible for his death, the court said, and responsible.
