Mexico City: The Mexican government said Tuesday it would allow cruise ships carrying people infected with Coronavirus to the dock.
The announcement came after two Mexican ports refused to allow passengers on land because their ship had a Coronavirus case.
The Ministry of Health says passengers or crews that do not show symptoms will be allowed to land normally, while those who have symptoms or positive virus tests will be quarantined or given medical care.
The department said a cruise ship prevented from a docking at a Pacific coast port would be allowed to floal more north, at Guaymas Port.
It was a real reference for a ship that was supposed to dock in Puerto Vallarta a few days ago but it wasn’t allowed to do it.
At the beginning of the pandemic, several cruise ships roamed the sea for weeks looking for a port that would allow them to dock with Coronavirus Case on the boat.
Mexico is one of the few countries in the world that has institutionalized no travel restrictions, there are no test requirements and no mandatory face masks for visitors.
The government believes these steps will become counterproductive for the economy, which is a tourism income as around 8.5% of GDP.
Mexico has also paid high prices in pandemic.
The country has around 460,000 deaths related to Covid-19, based on government reviews of death certificates over the past two years.
