NEW DELHI: The house ministry Friday assigned powers for grant of Indian citizenship to immigrants belonging to minority communities in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh, into the house secretaries of both Punjab and Haryana, other collectors of 13 other districts spread across Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab.
These forces were because 2018 assigned to the house secretaries of seven countries and collectors of all 16 districts around those seven nations.
At a notification issued Friday, the home ministry said the collectors of Morbi, Rajkot, Patan and Vadodara in Gujarat; Durg and Balodabazar at Chhattisgarh; Jalore, Udaipur, Pali, Barmer and Sirohi at Rajasthan; Faridabad in Haryana and Jalandhar in Punjab would possess the powers exercisable by the Central authorities for enrollment as a citizen of India under Section 5, or even for grant of certificate of naturalisation under Section 6 of the Citizenship Act, 1955 with regard to Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladeshi applicants belonging to religious minorities there, that are normally resident within their respective areas.
