NEW DELHI: The ministry of home affairs on Friday encouraged applications for Indian citizenship by non-Muslim refugees in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh residing in 13 districts.
The Union home ministry issued a notification within this impact for prompt execution of this arrangement under the Citizenship Act 1955 and Rules framed under regulations in 2009 although the principles below the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) enacted in 2019 are still yet to be embraced from the authorities.
“In exercise of powers conferred under Section 16 of the Citizenship Act, 1955 (57 of 1955), the central authorities hereby directs that powers exercisable by it to get enrollment as citizen of India under Section 5, or even for grant of certificate of naturalisation under section of the Citizenship Act 1955 in regard to any individual belonging to minority community from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan specifically, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians, living in the districts said and the countries mentioned under.
