Last year, in November, it was reported that Microsoft is working on bringing the support to download Android apps to Windows soon and now new evidence suggests that the Redmond-based tech giant may roll this out with Windows 11 update that is set to happen on June 24.
According to a report by MS Poweruser, there is a particular entry in the changelog for the latest Windows Subsystem for Linux release that hints at the possibility of a native Android emulator for Windows.
There are two mentions of Android in the changelog.
One states “fix android emulator window is not movable when no frame” and the mentions “fix android emulator window doesn’t move and crash at minimising.” Due to this, it is now being alleged that Microsoft could be using emulation in the Windows Subsystem for Linux as a basis for bringing native Android apps to Windows and the Microsoft Store.
Back in November, a report by Windows Central had claimed that Microsoft has been spotted working on a software solution that would allow app developers to bring their Android apps to Windows.
The report had cited sources familiar with the matter and claimed that the project is codenamed ‘Latte’ and was said to be launched this year.
The company is set to unveil an all-new version of Windows — touted to be called Windows 11 — on June 24 after a gap of six years.
The Windows 10 OS version was unveiled in 2015.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, at the Build conference held last month, had dropped hints about huge changes coming to the world’s most popular operating system.
Nadella said that he had been using it for the past months and was excited about the next gen of Windows.
“Soon we will share one of the most significant updates to Windows of the past decade to unlock greater economic opportunity for developers and creators,” Nadella said.
