Tuxtla Gutierrez: Mexico, fifty-four mostly Central Americans were killed on Thursday when their truck turned in southern Mexico, in one of the worst accidents involving migrants risking their lives to reach the United States.

Men, women and children were among the dead, said the state government of Chiapas and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on Twitter expressed his sadness at the incident “very painful”.
‘Not the best way’ migrants fleeing poverty and violence in Central America normally travel through Mexico to reach the US border, and sometimes cram large trucks held by smugglers in a very dangerous condition.
“This shows us that irregular migration is not the best way,” Kevin Lopez, a spokesman for the Presidency of Guatemala, told Milenio Television after the accident.
He does not know how many victims there Guatemala.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador, Alexandra Hill, said the government was working to see if Salvador had died.
Mexico offers lodging and a humanitarian visa to the survivors, and the governor of Chiapas Escandon said those responsible for the accident will be taken into account.
Officials in Mexico routinely find migrants were packed into the trailer, including 600 people discovering hidden behind two trucks in eastern Mexico last month.
Traveling north from the Mexican border with Guatemala dangerous and expensive, and many of the migrants fall prey to criminal gangs on the way.
In January, 19 people, mostly migrants, were slaughtered by the alleged involvement of the police in northern Mexico.
Recording the number of people have been arrested in the US-Mexico border this year when migrants trying to harness the promise President Joe Biden to pursue a more humane immigration policy than his predecessor, Donald Trump.
Mexican authorities in Chiapas has been trying to persuade migrants to not form a caravan to walk thousands of miles to the US border, and began to transport people from the southern city of Tapachula to other regions in the country.
Biden administration has also been urging migrants not to leave their homeland for the United States, and this week saw the restart of a policy initiated under Trump to send asylum seekers to Mexico to wait for their court hearings.
