Bhubaneswar: Namita Durga from a remote village in Kalangandi District has returned from Tamil Nadu to oppose the election of Panchayat here next month.
Forced to migrate to the southern state to make a living, the 26-year-old is a candidate for the Sarpanch post at Atigaon Panchayat, which is provided for a woman.
He, along with her husband and their five-year-old son, has gone for Tamil Nadu five years ago.
They are involved as seasonal workers at the textile factory there.
They used to get Rs 12,000 every month.
Moved by the fate of the people at home, he decided to return to Michagaon to fight rural polls and bring change.
He said even though it came from a poor family, he did not have a ration card until now.
He expressed deep desire to help others in the same situation in his village.
Namita, who has studied to class X, will return in April this year.
But he came home early just to be in a poll.
“For years, we struggled to get a free allotment from the government, such as other BPL families.
Rural country representatives, who came to us to choose, never facilitate one for us.
This time, because the position was provided for women, I have to Rushed back to the contest.
If I win, I will help people who use the government’s welfare scheme intended for them and build houses for homeless people, “said Namita.
Four other female candidates were in Medan against Namita.
He left the door to the door, along with five supporting women, to campaign.
Lokesh Durga, relatively far away Namita, who held a PhD in history at Delhi University with a special focus on West Odisha, said she encouraged Namita to enter the poll.
“A woman is a matriculation, and that is also a migrant worker, must contest so that other people in the commotion realize how time has guaranteed that even migrants think about their own people.
Previously, only money and special ones were brave for the contest, “He said.
