Bengaluru: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanaagara Palike (BBMP) has identified 102 detention zones in Bengaluru and Mahadevapura, South, and the East Zone for 22 each.
Civil officials said the increase in infection was caused by a large migrant population.
While Mahadevapura contributed 101 cases – the highest East has 79 and South 71.
Data accessed by TOI shows there are more detention zones in the apartment complex than individual homes in the zone.
“The number of people traveling from other countries such as West Bengal, Maharashtra, and Kerala to Mahadevapura are very high.
The travelers live in the apartment,” said Venkatatchalapati, Commissioner with BBMP, Mahadevapura.
On the other hand, testing has increased from 6,000 to 9,000 tests per day and this can be one reason for a surge in the zone, because it helps identify positive cases of asymptomatic, said VenkatatchaPatpathi.
Horamavu, Bellandur, Hagadur, Hudi and Doddanekkundi are wards in Mahadevapura where cases rise.
However, in the south and east zone, infection increases in individual residence.
Citing examples of BTM, Jayagar, JP Nagar, and Kormangala, a senior health official from the South Zone said that most of them contracted infection were students and employees who returned from other states.
“They may have brought a negative RT-PCR report that is no more than 72 hours when they arrive in the city, but that does not mean they cannot contract infection during the trip,” the official said.
With a recent cluster case plague at Nursing College in Horamavu, Gaurav Gupta, Head of the BBMP commissioner has decided to increase testing and also a strict registration safety protocol in the detention zone.
“We see a cluster increase.
With increasing testing, we can quickly identify those infected and control the deployment at the initial stage,” said Gupta.
“The BBMP official monitors their health in institutional quarantine.
We also ensure that educational institutions carefully handle Covid cases.”
