Beirut: Prime Minister-appointed by Najib Mikati said on Thursday’s progress, although slow, has been achieved to form a cabinet in Lebanon, note that donor countries will not help the country except it itself.
Lebanon has been without the government since Prime Minister Hassan Diab stopped after the catastrophe on August 4, 2020, the explosion of the port, with politicians failed to agree even when the country was paralyzed by the main financial crisis.
Mikati, a businessman, has tried to form a government because she was appointed last month in the place of Saad Al-Hariri, who surrendered after nine months trying, said she could not agree with President Michel Aoun.
“Today’s meeting is a positive step forward,” Mikati said after meeting with Aoun.
“Today we make progress …
even if the progress is slow.
But we survive, and insist on forming the government,” he said.
While Western donors have provided humanitarian assistance to Lebanon – a conference organized by France on Wednesday gathered $ 370 million – they demanded Lebanese leaders set on reforms before assistance was directed to the state.
Mikati said there was a message: “If you are Lebanon not help each other, you want us to help you?” “This is where I started a meeting with His Majesty, the President and I told him that the government had to be formed.” Mikati said on Monday, she hoped for a faster speed in the government formation and that her business would not end openly.
