Damascus: Militants attacked the bus carrying soldiers on the desert highway in Central Syria, killing five troops and injuring 20, the country’s media reported Monday.
The state news agency there said the attack took place on Sunday night in a government-controlled area.
The report quoted an unnamed official said militants launched a rocket on the bus traveling in the Palmyra Desert, then followed him with a shot from an anti-airplane weapon.
Officially blamed the Islamic state guerrilla for the attack.
Do militants have been active in Southern Syria and Central, despite losing territorial control in the country since 2019 .
The Assad government has repeatedly flattened the allegations against US forces and coalitions based in Al-Tanf.
US troops have maintained a limited presence in Syria to practice and work with Syrian forces led by Kurdish and opposition fighters in counter-terrorism efforts.
Syrian observatories based in the UK for human rights, war monitors, said alleged militants ambushed military convoys, killing at least nine soldiers and members of the government ally militia.
The group said 15 was injured.
Different reports cannot be reconciled immediately.
