CHANDIGARH: Covid-19 infected four-time Asian Games gold medallist Milkha Singh is showing “continuous improvement” and his “condition has been observed better than previous days,” PGIMER spokesperson Prof Ashok Kumar said in a statement on Sunday.
“Legendary sprinter Shri Milkha Singh ji, who has been admitted in ICU of NHE Block of PGIMER since June 3 and getting treatment for Covid-19, is showing continuous improvement.
On the basis of all the medical parameters today, June 6, his condition has been observed better than previous days,” Prof Kumar said.
Currently admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) hospital, the 90-year-old is being monitored by a medical team, added Prof Kumar.
Earlier in the day, the nonagenarian’s family also released a statement, which confirmed that Singh is stable and his health condition is improving even as his wife Nirmal Kaur continues to fight the virus in two different city hospitals.
“Milkha Ji is improving and his condition is stable.
Mrs Nirmal Milkha Ji continues to battle it out bravely.
We thank you for your prayers and good wishes,” a statement from the family read.
On Saturday, the family had also issued a statement through a spokesperson, urging people to ignore the rumours floating around, in reference to some false social media posts which have been doing the rounds.
Four days after being discharged “on the request of his family” from the Fortis Hospital in Mohali, the 1958 Commonwealth Games gold medallist was on Thursday admitted to the PGIMER hospital after his oxygen level started dropping, and is closely being monitored by a team of three doctors.
Meanwhile, his 82-year-old wife, and former India volleyball captain Nirmal Kaur is also learnt to be stable at the Mohali Hospital.
