Minister of Health Vishwajit Rane’s U-turn: no one died because of the issues related to oxygen in Goa

PANIJI: In the main round on the floor of the Assembly, the Minister of Health of Goa Vishwajit Rane, who first announced that many covid patients were dying in the country because of oxygen disorders in the Goa Medical College (GMC) during the second wave, on Friday denied any deaths related to disadvantages oxygen.
In the response written in the assembly, Rane said: “Not at the time (no) oxygen supply in GMC is out of stock, and thus, no deaths that have been reported (already) are caused by non-supply of oxygen.
There is no death that is directly associated With a lack of oxygen.
But surely, consumption per patient increases due to Covid-19 tension.
“Toi has reported that at least 83 people allegedly died of oxygen-related problems between May 11 and May 15 while undergoing treatment for Covid-19 in GMC.
On May 11, at the peak of the second wave of Covid, Rane had made a surprising announcement that 26 Covid-19 patients had died between 02:00 and 6 in the morning due to lack of oxygen in GMC and asked the Bombay High Court to GMC.
“Because of the disconnected oxygen supply, we feel that between 2am and 6 in the morning, many people are dying in GMC.
There is a need for direct investigations by the High Court.
There is a petition delayed before that.
HC can appoint an expert committee to find out why death happened between 2am and 6am and came out with white paper, “he said.
Rane’s statement came on the day when the cave recorded 75 Covid deaths, tally one day high, where 48 patients died in GMC.
There is no government hospital in the state that runs out of oxygen supply: health min “on Monday (May 10), our need is around 1,200 cylinders, but we received 400 cylinders.
The hospital has faced a lack of oxygen supply,” said Minister of Health.
The Chairman of the Minist of Pramod Sawant, who visited the Covid ward on May 11, also hinted that there was a lack of oxygen.
“It seems that oxygen does not reach the patient.
I will not tolerate such actions which will cause the death of Covid patients due to lack of oxygen,” he said soon after his visit.
But on Friday, in a written reply for three questions about the death of oxygen, Rane immediately denied there was death but went further and praised the government.
“During the surge in active Covid cases that suddenly in the second week of May, the demand for oxygen suddenly appeared.
But because of the extra effort entered by the government, additional oxygen is available and there is no time, there is no government hospital in the state that runs out Oxygen supply.
Therefore, there are no deaths reported because there is no oxygen supply in a government hospital in the state until now, “he said.
This problem was first marked by a government doctor through their relationship, the Association of Goa Resident Doctor (Gard), in 1.
May in a strong letter, the doctors stated that “the supply of oxygen in various Covid wards was not even close to adequate”.
Hearing the raft of litigation of public interest in Covid’s mismanagement, Bombay Hakit Sonak High Court on May 12 began the trial by apologizing to Goa people due to lack of oxygen.
“We are very sorry.
We failed collectively …
we owe an apology to everyone,” he said.
On May 14, Nodal GMC officer Dr.
Viraj Khandeparkar admitted before the High Court that death was happening at the Premier Hospital due to lack of oxygen.
“Oxygen disorders cause problems to lead to death.
Last night (May 13), the interruption caused between midnight and 8 in the morning caused 15 deaths,” he said.
Even the state health secretary, Ravi Dhawan, acknowledged that the government found it difficult to supply oxygen trolleys on time due to lack of expert drivers for tractors who provide oxygen.
“There are logistical problems involved in tractor maneuver carrying oxygen trolleys and in connecting cylinders to manifolds.
Driver experts are not available for divers and tractor maneuvers for transportation,” he said in a statement swore before the High Court.
The court highlighted a gloomy picture by stating that the death of 419 Covid took place from May 1 to May 12, where some occurred between 02:00 and 6 in the morning, which was directly associated with logistical problems.
“The right to life is the fundamental rights guaranteed by Article 21 of the Constitution.
Therefore, there is a task that is in accordance with the state to ensure that this life is not extinguished because of the inability of the state to supply oxygen to this unfortunate pandemic victim,” Judge Sonak and NW Sambre has told this state government.
