Guwahati: Following the Intervention of the Polutionary Control Agency, Assam (PCBA) and in the midst of public protests, garbage disposal in Chandrapur has been “temporarily” stopped since August 5.
Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has begun to remove garbage in a new site in Boragaon Located close to Deepor Beel Wildlife Sanctuary.
The new Dumping site is about 1 km from the previous site at Boragaon which was stopped after the direction of the Government of Assam on June 24 asked Metropolitan Kamrup District to use the chandrapur site which was just chosen in the eastern suburbs to dispose of garbage.
The Environment of Assam and Parimal Forest Minister Suklabaidya, in a written reply to the question of the ASIF Congress Legislator Mohammad Nazar on Wednesday, told the state assembly that the department concerned did not take advantage of the ‘Environmental License’ of the State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority (Seiaa)) along with ‘Approval for building’ and ‘authorization certificate’ from the state pollution control body to dispose of garbage in Chandrapur.
In his reply, the minister said that on July 28, 2021, the GMC was applied to the State Pollution Control Board for the ‘authorization certificate’ to establish a disposal site in Chandrapur.
