Ghaziabad: Eleven people, including the former son of Hapur Mla, was arrested on Thursday for allegedly robbing Rad 42 lakh rice traders at Kavi Nagar.
Defendant was identified as Vinay Teja (26), Deepak Palta (59), Ashish Bhasin (41), Surendra Pal (59), Ayush (20), Vishal Mittal (46), Manoj Sharma (48), Rajeev Tyagi (48)) , Arvind Tyagi (44) and his wife Reena (42), Satendra Singh aka Bobby (44).
The police said the gang was led by Teja, Palta and Pal, who run the homoeopathic clinic in Delhi.
Bobby, the son of the former leader of Hapur MLA and Congress Gajraj Singh, has five cases, including efforts to kill and exhaust it, register it in Noida, Hapur and Muladabad.
Four was accused of again, including Rajkumar, Gaurav Chaudhary and two more people who were not named by the police, fled.
The complainant, N Anandan, a Chennai-based rice trader who wants to invest money, has contacted Teja on August 12, police said.
Two days later, Teja and Palta met Anandan in Gurgaon.
After gaining trust, Palta improved a meeting between Anandan and Bhasin and Ayush for August 15, where other meetings remained.
On Tuesday, Anandan was called by one who was accused of being a room in the center of Raj Nagar District where Arvind Tyagi, Bobby, Rajeev Tyagi and Chaudhary were present.
The rooms used belonged to Brother-in-law Arvind Atul Tyagi, who were not present there at the time of the incident.
“The defendant defeated Anandan with a pistol handle and grabbed his bag containing Rs 42.5 lakh.
Eyewitnesses called the police who started the probe after staying,” said Ghaziabad Ssp Pawan Kumar.
A senior police officer told Ti that during the interrogation, the defendant said the victim came with Rs 1 Crore in two bags and they assumed he would not file a complaint because of ‘black money’.
The police also said so far, the victim failed to tell them the source from which cash came from.
“We will inform the Department of Income Tax and Income Office and investigate further,” SSP said.
The number of Rs 38.3 lakh recovered from the defendant – RS 32 Lakh from Reena Tyagi, Rs 5 Lakh from Bobby and Rs 1.3 Lakh from Rajeev Tyagi.
Three illegal pistols and live cartridges, I20 and some of the clothes they bought after the robbery were also found.
All 11 people have been ordered under the IPC Sections 395 (punishment for dacoity), 397 (robbery or dakoity, with efforts to cause death or sadness), 420 (penalty for cheating) and 120B (criminal conspiracy punishment).
