M’Luru: The Civic Group urges the police to curb a moral police

Mangaluru: Given the increasing incidence of brutal attacks on residents by Vigilante groups, Mangalore Civic Group has presented a memorandum to Mangaluru City Police to take direct steps to curb the threat of moral police in Mangaluru.
A delegation met the City Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar and said the moral policing had disturbed Mangalaru for decades and increased over the past few months.
They stated that in many cases the perpetrators were ordered but released later without being taken to court.
“The crime of moral police and religious vigilantism has disrupted peace and communal harmony in the city.
It has brought embarrassment to Mangalaru and educational institutions affected by negative impacts, the tourism industry, and other businesses in and around Mangaluru,” they said.
They suggested that the police have to be sensitive to the conductor and the bus driver on this problem, collaborating with educational institutions, installing warning poster at the stop and park and 24×7 women’s safety applications.
“The police must wear a fine of Spot, a criminal case book and follow up on cases to secure the confidence of the perpetrators,” said civil group members said.
In return, Commissioner said the police had acted immediately to receive complaints about vigilante incidents and strict law enforcement being carried out to control the crime.
He told the delegates that his message to the city youth was acting responsibly and did not fall prey to bad influences and enjoy interview activities.
Delegation consisting of Prathapchandra KediLAYA, SURESH NAYAK, Kiran Bhaskar and Oswald Pereira handed over the memorandum.
