Coimbatore: Makkal Needhi MAIAM (MNM) has released a list of first candidates for polls of urban local agencies, schedules that have not been announced.
MNM Founder Kamal Haasan released a list on Thursday, named 47 candidates, most of them women, for the position of the Council of the Environment with City Corporation.
Almost all of them were fresh faces, a quarrel of polls for the first time.
“This election will be a turning point for MNM.
Urban local bodies set to be regulated by MNM members will be praised as a model for all countries,” he said in a statement.
Kamal said the MNM had pocketed more votes in urban areas, compared to villages, both in the selection of Lok Sabha and Assembly.
He said the Tamil Nadu people missed an efficient and honest representative in the local body, whose neck in corruption, for years.
“There are many unsolved problems for years on each road too.
It is our duty to win the election and finish it,” said the founder of the MNM.
He called the candidates to develop a suitable strategy for their area and work tirelessly for victory.
Kamal said the candidates must take MNM policy, party plans and party symbols for each voter.
“For the next, your goal should only win,” he told them.
The press statement says this is the first list and other candidates will be announced soon.
Party officials said candidates belonged to different age groups, and social and economic backgrounds.
