PATNA: A BJP team headed by the party’s state treasurer and chief dip from the Bihar legislative council, Dilip Kumar Jaiswal, on Sunday visited Purnia district Majhuwa village in which over a dozen homes of Mahadalit community have been attacked and burnt by a mob of approximately 300 individuals on May 19. Mewalal Rai (70), a retired village chowkidar and also a part of Mahadalit community, has been crushed to death. The mob had misbehaved with children and women after a dispute over a government property, authorities said. On hitting the trouble-torn village, even the BJP leaders talked to many members of Mahadalit community also took inventory of their situation prevailing . “We collaborated with many members of this Mahadalit community that had been thrashed by the Turks at the night of May 19. The sufferers are fearful and they need safety. We also enquired regarding the following police actions from the episode in the villagers,” Jaiswal told TOI. He said that an old property dispute was that the reason for the assault. “The BJP needs immediate arrest of accused people, rapid trial in the situation, appropriate security to villagers and sufficient financial help to the families by the state authorities,” Jaiswal said, including the BJP group visited the village in the directive of their party state president and Bettiah MP Dr Sanjay Kumar Jaiswal. Party MLA Krishna Kumar Rishi was also a part of the group. The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has also voiced its concern on the brutal assault on Mahadalit households and demanded justice for victims. In a declaration, VHP’s federal secretary overall Milind Parande stated,”The wreaking havoc ravaged about the Mahadalits from the members of a minority neighborhood had been a replication of barbarous strikes on BJP fans in West Bengal after announcement of meeting poll success. The apathy of the police, administration and the authorities on these unsolved episodes of attacks, beatings, looting, violence and arson is extremely worrying.”
