New Delhi: The Ministry of Defense on Friday decided to memo or “mention” proposal for weapons from abroad, which included several helicopters and vehicles, during the reviews of all projects and plans to import weapons and platform systems.
There is no official word about the Defense Acquisition Board (DAC) meeting, chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh in virtual mode.
Hoever, MOD has reviewed all ongoing projects under the “Buy (Global)” category, which has “accepted the need (AON)” but has not been pressed, with the aim of memo or delaying some of them to increase original weapons production, such as those previously reported by TOI.
Army, Navy, IAF, and Coast are more intended to prepare a list of their procurement plans from foreign vendors, which are not “critical operational needs” and can be replaced by custom products.
“The government is very clear that the category of ‘buy-indian-IDDM’ (UNI-ID designed, developed and produced) will continue to get the top priority, followed by ‘make in India’ with foreign collaboration.
