Seoul: Moderna said on Tuesday partner making Covid-19 vaccine outside the United States faced delays due to laboratory testing operations that have occurred in the past few days, slowing down supply to these markets.
The comment of the vaccine maker came after South Korea’s health officials said at the beginning of the day Moderna had postponed the schedule for sending the end of July vaccines for the country until August due to supply problems.
“We are currently not ordering safety stock to allow vaccines to be sent faster, which means that we do not have stock in storage to facilitate this type of disadvantage or delay,” said a spokesman for Moderna.
This problem is now resolved, but the delay will lead to short-term adjustments in the coming 2-4 weeks, the spokesman said.
Delay delivery came when the South Korean government expanded inoculation campaigns to people in their 50s and workers in vital computer chips and the electronic sector.
Disorders have forced authority to switch to Pfizer vaccine for some vaccinations.
Moderna and manufacturing partners work to minimize this deficiency in all affected countries, the company said without giving the names of affected countries and the severity of the matter.
The supply problem is related to the process of making vaccines involving the Swiss Lonza contract drug maker and a spanish-based company, which conducted a bottling of working for a modern vaccine, said Jung Eun-Young, head of the vaccine procurement team.
“This means that the problem related to production does not only affect South Korea.
Conversely is a common problem for countries that receive volumes of manufacturing sites,” Jung said at a press conference.
He did not mention the name of the Spanish company, but the drug counter contract for the Rovi bottle drug, or “fill and complete,” Moderna vaccine for the market other than the United States.
Lonza contract drug maker said the question of the Covid-19 vaccine must be directed to modern.
Rovi is not available for comments.
South Korea has a contract for 40 million doses of modern vaccines, of which around 1.1 million have arrived.
The country fights against the wave of fourth infection related to the spread of a more contagious Delta variant and public satisfaction that has seen everyday cases violate 1,000 marks for the first time since December.
The authorities reported 1,365 new Coronavirus cases for Monday.
South Korean officials said modern vaccines scheduled to arrive in August remain on schedule, adding that detailed shipping plans will be used as the public after completion.
Shares of drug makers fell 3.7% to $ 323.5 in morning trade.
