Washington: US Biotech Company Moderna announced on Wednesday that he had started a clinical test of a vaccine booster dose specifically designed to combat the Omicron variant of Coronavirus.
The trial will involve a total of 600 adults who have received two modern Covid-19 vaccine doses at least six months ago, and half of them have received two doses plus a dose of booster previously passed.
Booster which specifically targets Omicron will be evaluated as the third and fourth dose.
The company also reported the results on the efficacy of Omicron from the authorized booster.
It was said that six months after the injection booster, the neutralization of antibody levels against Omicron was reduced six times from the peak observed 29 days after injection but still detected in all participants.
This data was obtained by studying blood 20 people who received 50 micrograms of booster, half of the number of two first injections.
“We were convinced by the persistence of antibodies to Omicron at six months after” Booster, Modern Chief Executive, Stephane Bancel, who is currently authorized.
“Even so, given the long-term threat shown by omicron immune runaway, we advance our omicron vaccine vaccine vaccine candidate and we are happy to start this part of our 2 phase study,” continued Bancel.
Moderna’s statement came on the day after Rivals Pfizer and Bionech said they had started registration for clinical trials for omicron special vaccines.
Both vaccines are based on RNA Messenger technology, which makes it relatively easy to update them to follow special mutations for new variants.
Some countries, including the United States, have begun to see a decline in cases related to the wave of infection caused by Omicron, the most translisting variant detected so far, but the number of infections around the world continues to increase.
