Modi Meeting Kamala Harris ‘came from the age’ for Indian Diaspora, said its home country newspaper

WASHINGTON: US Vice President Kamala Harris met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House on Thursday afternoon was a moment “coming from age” for Indian Diaspora, the leading US newspaper in his home country had said at night the historic meeting between the two leaders.
Harris, 56, was the first Indian American who was elected as the Vice President of the United States.
Harris is scheduled to meet modi on Thursday, making history as the highest ranked Indian-American to welcome country leaders who are one of the most important allies in America, the Los Angeles Times newspaper said.
This will be his first meeting with Modi, 71, whose government is not only fighting for the causes of diaspora but also never ashamed to talk about their interest globally.
The prime minister was actively involved with Diaspora on all its trips abroad.
“Modi-Harris Meeting) did represent the moment ‘came’ for the Diaspora, which is now more than 4 million strong,” Milan Vaishnav, director of the South Asian program at The Carnegie Endowment for international peace, told California based newspapers.
“The meeting between the leaders came when the Biden government moved closer to India and other Asian and Pacific countries, continuing the focus of Trump’s administration in response to the strength of China which grew by building American economic and military bonds in the region,” Daily Report.
Harris spoke with Modi by telephone on June 3.
This will be their first direct meeting, where one hour has been scheduled, said the source.
According to White House officials, Harris during the meeting will strengthen strategic partnerships between the United States and India.
“The meeting will be built on their June 3 telephone conversations that handle Covid response.
They plan to discuss democracy, human rights, climate, and global health problems,” the official said before PTI.
Karthick Ramakrishnan, a professor of public policy at UC Riverside who has tracked Indian American public opinion since 2008, told Los Angeles Times that he believed the meeting would be carefully monitored by Indians who followed foreign policy.
At the same time, he noted that the meeting would not get the same level of attention in the US or India produced by the selection of Harris as a friend who ran by Biden or swore; Both produce proud waves by Indians and Indian Americans on Twitter and Facebook.
Harris was born of two immigrant parents – a black father and mother of India.
His father, Donald Harris, came from Jamaica, and his mother Shyamala Gopalan was a cancer researcher and civil rights activist from Chennai.
