Nagpur: Rommy Humayun, a farmer from Damoh at Madhya Pradesh, has been camping at Bakramandi Mominpura from Bakramandi for the past few days, hoping to take a good price for his genealogy.
He quoted RS55,000 for men with a weight of more than 90kg.
K Parall, a farmer from Hingna Tehsil, is ready to sell his local goat breed with a weight of more than 50kg even for RS25,000.
Despite lowering the requested price, both of them failed to attract buyers in traditional Bakramandi, which appeared near the city cutting house which is now not functioning in front of Eid-ul-adha every year.
Losing income, family-hit by Covid and local restrictions have contributed to a slow mood during the festival.
Usually, the seller will see a fast business and take a good price in carrying out Eid al-Fitr, which falls on Wednesday this time.
On Monday around 5pm, the Mominpura market was open with goat sellers and limited buyers engaged around the 4pm deadline for Nagpur Corporation for all non-emergency overseas activities.
“I would be happy if I get RS45,000.
I will ask RS70,000 if everything is good,” Humayun said, traveling more than 300 km to reach the city.
Paral has become an annual seller in Mominpura.
“I might have to go back today.
I will be wearing two times the cost of transportation,” he said for years, the opportunity has offered business opportunities for locals because the area attracted buyers from many places.
Mohd Iqbal, a resident of Boriabora, Frings for losing several goats until the disease due to rain, and the rest did not sell at the desired level.
“In 2019, I sold 350 goats at least a week before Eid al-Fitr.
This time, I only brought 50% of livestock and still 45 of them were not sold,” he said.
Iqbal will produce around RS1 Lakh from annual sales.
For the remaining animals, he depends on the commission agent.
“I sell to get profits from RS500 to RS2,500.
If an agent makes me a customer, I have to part with the RS500 as a commission,” he said.
Iqbal added that because of the poor prospects here, many traders have chosen Raipur and Hyderabad to look for a higher level.
Mohammad Shariq, a resident of Mominpura, said the bargain and negotiations lasted until 11pm in an open room at Istama’s cutting house.
“The police came several times that day and asked them to leave.
Kalma APMC has better facilities for traders and animals, but has been closed due to restrictions.
There is no place so that wet goats are soaked and become vulnerable to disease.
This fear is in the seller’s mind , which makes them give goats at a lower price, “he said.
