Coimbatore: In a rare incident, a monkey attacked a four-year-old girl at Hopes-Vilankurichi Ram last Wednesday.
Simian attacked the girl when she used her bathroom, said the source of Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
“Hearing his tears, his mother hurried to save him and tried to push the monkey.
When he failed, he warned his neighbor, who managed to pursue the animal.
The child suffered a head and bleed injury,” he said.
The child’s parents first rushed to a private hospital, who referred him to CMC.
“After giving first aid, he was treated in a pediatric ward for observation.
We treated the wound to make sure it was not infected and put the stitch to close it,” said Cmch Dean Dr.
A Nirmala.
“We also gave an anti-rabies injection.
The girl was dismissed on Saturday.” Monkeys, elephants, leopards and even wild dogs often deviate into urban settlements in the west and south of the city, which borders Western Ghats.
Monkeys are always considered more disparaging than danger.
Responding to violent incidents, the forestry department has promised to drive monkeys from urban settlements.
